Hi there! I’m Constance Smith.
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I’m a child of the Midwest. After high school I was accepted to UW Stevens Point but instead I joined the army to see the world. I met this young soldier at a chapel service during Basic Training and he unexpectedly stole my heart. We got married in a whirlwind 3 months later and thus began the adventure of military life. We raised three homeschooled kids along the way and lived everywhere from Europe to Alaska.
I started a “home page” back in 1998, and a few years later began blogging. Cosmopolitan Cornbread, was born as a way to share wonderful recipes for your family to enjoy and bring back the tradition of the family meal. You can find over 600 recipes on Cosmopolitan Cornbread. There, I continue to share vlogs, gardening and homemaking tips and much more.
After retiring from army life and planting roots in northern Alabama, life had begun a new chapter. That new chapter included living a more agrarian lifestyle – homesteading, gardening, raising animals. In the process I decided that even though I have always lived what I consider “well” – mostly avoiding processed & pre-made foods, avoiding pharmaceuticals for more natural (herbal, oils, homeopathic remedies) – that I wanted to take it a step further.
Like many others out there, as I aged I found my body reacted to things differently. The foods that had always been good to me, weren’t making me feel as awesome any more. I had begun putting on weight – probably a direct result of age & hormonal changes. My body was strong and relatively active – with the homesteading lifestyle. But strong does not equate to healthy. I want to be healthy.
After watching the amazing results that several friends had after switching to keto or paleo lifestyles, I spent a year doing my homework and contemplating taking the leap and doing it myself. After editing a video on my YouTube channel and getting a good, candid and “other angle” look at myself, I knew it was time. That day I changed my way of living. I was determined to make the change and even went so far as to take “before” photos, which I will share at a future date.
Now if you had suggested even the week prior that I would give up breads … me, the “carbivore” … I would have laughed in your face! But after the first week – only 7 days – I had lost 11 pounds! That settled it. This was the right thing for my body.
I launched PALEOh Yum! because as a long time professional food blogger with a passion for sharing wonderful recipes with others – sharing wonderful PALEO recipes simply comes naturally. I want to share recipes that anyone will enjoy, whether you are paleo or not.
And so that is what you will find here. PALEOh Yum! will be a source for paleo-friendly recipes as well as occasional “natural living” content, such as home-made salt scrubs or other tips that I believe you will enjoy.
Come along on this journey with me!
