Store bought taco seasoning contains all sorts of questionable ingredients. To control what you are putting in your food, mix up your own taco seasoning. It’s simple to make and a great addition for many recipes.
This is a wonderful way to add that great taco flavor to any dish with out the extras.
Paleo Taco Seasoning
All of the taco flavor you could ever want, without the "junk."
- 1/4 c chili powder
- 2 Tb ground cumin
- 2 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground roasted coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground chipotle chile pepper
- 1/2 c cassava (tapioca) flour optional as a thickening agent
To begin, simply combine all of the ingredients in a jar.
Close the jar and shake it well to combine.
Use as desired
TO USE: When you make tacos, you will combine this in a skillet with your cooked meat, about 3 Tb of the mix, and ⅓ cup water per pound of meat. Simmer it together until it thickens and coats the meat. This can be cooked ground beef or even shredded chicken. Add salt as needed to taste. You can adjust the liquid and seasoning to suit your taste and needs.
TRADITIONAL VERSION: To make a regular (non-paleo) version of this, substitute 1/2 c corn starch for the cassava/tapioca flour.
